This is a public comment to save face. Fact is the US owns the IP and it is considered essential to national security and a threat to that security is letting a global peer competitor steal it. No way in hell we would let the Chinese take those factories. They are getting blown and if some politician needs to bend the truth for votes, it won’t change a thing.

It’s a politician of their military. Politicians are in our military as well as every other. They are trying to project an image for political reasons which is why they made such a politically charged statement public about something that would normally be secret. I think that Taiwan is between two giants and will never dictate shit to the DoD. We occupy them. Good luck stopping us. We would fight to destroy Chinese access to that tech and then leave. Nothing anyone could do to stop us. The fact this is tabled for discussion in the court of public opinion in out media means the Pentagon already knows it needs to massage public perceptions of this.
