I saw these in the thousands on a recent hike on the AT. Just started on the trail, and my daughter pointed out about five that were on a tree. So I killed them.
Then I looked up. Hundreds of adults on that tree alone, and on every 10th tree, just on that one trail.
It's gonna get bad. I remember a few years ago, the sightings were few and far between. I'd never seen one till last year. Bad news.
I only heard about them a year or two ago. I haven't spotted any yet.
They started on the east coast. I saw them in Pennsylvania, and PA extension services have been warning about them for a few years, 4 or 5. Looks like they've migrated west. Next year, or maybe the following, Ohio will likely be inundated.
Currently, they think a lot of the migration is along major highways. Hitching rides on cars. I-76 would take them all the way across the country.
In my best Trump impression.
"They came from Chi-NA!"
