'maximizes the visitor experience'. definitely spend the millions then.
It's unlikely that this rail plan would go through. They've been trying it for decades, the last time this was tried was 2010.
It was going to be a "high speed" rail line from Cleveland to Columbus to Dayton to Cincinnati. Average speed less than 50MPH, about $50 per passenger per leg of travel ($200 round trip from Cleveland and back,) and cost about $1.2B to build. That was without the typical government boondoggle dollars, and it would still require a $17M/yr subsidy (again, without government boondoggle dollars) to operate.
There's already an interstate running between all cities that this money would be better spent on improving, and there (at the time) was already daily bus service between the cities via Megabus.
It was dead before it was conceived.
It's dumb AF.
Cleveland to Columbus takes about 2 hours and 25 dollars in gas. Plus if I drive, I have a car while I'm down there.
The rail line makes little sense.
Plus you can take 1-3 other passengers in a typical car for not much more gasoline cost. Not to mention being able to stop along the way if you see something interesting.
