I feel like the article is deliberately misleading in the fact that it, and all of the secondary sources, don't really mention it wasn't in operation. There is a little blurb in there about how it closed in 2016, and that's it.

Interesting how many plants that manufacture real food (besides bugs) spontaneously catch fire.

However, it could easily be setup to run again, except unfortunately there was a fire.

Possibly, it sounds like a developer bought it for some other reason.

It's hard to tell what state the processing equipment, had any remained, was in. If there wasn't any, it was just an empty building.
