Actually it's every other year now.
That's not as bad I guess.
We used to have rolling inspections by the state patrol, there would be random spots they'd set up and motion cars in. It was a quick inspection, lights, horn, tires - just basic things. I think the last time I saw one of those was about 1988. I think they still do those, but I haven't seen one in decades.
Just did some research, seems like only the Cleveland area requires inspections now.
They require emissions checking, but no one requires vehicle safety inspections AFAIK.
A lot more cities used to require that, but some - like Dayton - have a major interstate running through them with lots of thru traffic Was kind of worthless to check local cars when 10x more drove through every day.
Just Cleveland, not sure why. Every car in Cleveland is rusted out and has party plates on it.
