Before i go tho, one of my dads old hobbies was HAM radios, we were in suburban west melbourne, had a big ass aerial at the back of the house, he had postcard things from all over the world. Something else mum just plain threw out when he died.
PS lol just googled his callsign, its still listed with his full name in the same location, he died 20 years ago, he got rid of the radio about 10 years before that so its a 30 year out of date listing.
That's cool. I assume they do like the USA and simply expire the license.
Here, I know you can apply for a particular set of letters as a "vanity" license, as long as it's not in current use. For example, this one:

is the person (now deceased) that convinced me to get my license. He applied for the particular combination of letters because it was available.
ive got half a mind to apply to see if i can get his callsign. i dont have any of the gear. I did have a FROL license tho. not sure if its still valid.
