Hi, i have a problem with my PC, just wondering if anyone here could help. I am testing my power supply with a multi meter pin 20 on the manual says the volts should be -5 volts, i am getting a +5 volts could this be the cause of my problems?. Pin 14 says -12 volts which does read -12 volts on the meter so - volts is a valid reading.

IIRC -5V is not used anymore (used by ISA cards, old DRAM and floppy disks) and was removed from the ATX12V 1.3 and later specifications.

What's the problem with your PC?

It starts up for like 2 sec the shuts down, if i try starting it again after that nothing happens it is dead, I have to leave it for a day until i can get it to start up for the 2 sec period. I tried swapping ram, removed all cables and plugged them back in, checked the power start button by jumping it on the mother board, reset the cmos by jumping it. Unseated the heat sink and re seated it with new thermal paste. Check the psu with a multi meter. I am guessing its the motherboard?.
