I mentioned I had an old electric stapler that made some noise during a thread, here it is. (vid8.poal.co)

It's a Staplex SJM-1, it was acquired from a former employer that was throwing out everything.

The camera I'm using doesn't really capture well, you can see that even though I have lots of light, the performance on video is still kind of crap. It makes a nice satisfying clunk that flickers the lights when it fires, and there's a nice green spark inside. I tried to capture that, but I suspect my camera isn't fast enough.

I have a better camera but it needs a new battery. If I can get one, I'll try again.

I've used those. Also had a 4-hole punch at one time, Ma Bell made ones that didn't match normal binders so people wouldn't take them home.

Unfortunately, I don't have much use for stapling paper these days. I had to search for something to staple, and ran across an alignment procedure for an AOR 1000 DC-Daylight scanner. It's got a lot of staple holes in it now.

I vaguely remember odd paper sizes in WP, but never really bothered wth them. That's cruel and insane to do that. I like it.

The fluorescent ballasts in a commercial building are another example of "Make it just different enough..." They (can) run on 277VAC, which is a single phase of a three-phase 480VAC standard. Just different enough that you can't use them at home.
