It's interesting that they were still showing primarily dial phones at the time - DTMF had just come out a few years earlier.
This movie may look odd for the time (surely by the 1960s everyone had a phone...) but that wasn't the case. Some of the old, now dead neighbors that used to live around me were original residents of the area. They spoke about not being able to get lines run until the mid-60s because of the backlog from the war.
