The Star Trek thing was the first thing that popped into my mind :) https://poal.co/s/StarTrek/626538
Looking at this work of art, I kind of doubt the 'home made' aspect a tiny bit. Much of it was probably made on company 'spare time'.
This is the way.
Some of those old guys were good at this stuff, but I bet there were borrowed tools.
"It's not stealing, it's long term borrowing" is what a friend conjured up. God bless him.
Back in the '80s a relative by marriage working in the Pulp and Paper industry quit his job to make equipment control panels/boxes full time for the Pulp and Paper industry. Lots of switches, gauges, components and wire. This reminds me of some of his work. He was building stuff for production as well as their research lab.
I appreciate the skill those guys had.
