Ancient technology aside, the device in the side-by-side is just a piece of tat that makes claims that are both impossible, and can't have the effects they state because that's not how the device it's trying to influence works. It has nothing to do with the tile design in a cathedral other than it looks pretty. This is what made him mad.
If we're talking ancient technology, I'm more interested in how blocks of granite have holes that look like they were cut by a modern rock saw.
