If I ever want to find inner solace, I grab a few boxes of ammo and take my shotgun into the forest near my farm in the spring/summer. I sit alone, silently waiting for hours. Usually from 3-530ish AM. Then the wild turkeys start popping out of the trees to me blasting the shit out of them.
The secret to wild turkey hunting is you time it right. You have to let the shot hit multiple ones at once and the distance is also crucial. The flock will mostly retreat after the first shot.
Then you prepare the carcasses for a nice dinner and freeze a few feathered and fileted pieces.
I found this technique my father taught me wasteful. So I only do this when I can share the game.
Now I mostly just sit quietly in the early morning and one shot whichever one is closest with my sidearm at sunrise when they awake.
