"anecdotes"?
That's not anecdotal, that's fucking daily pain in the ass since years, that could be fixed for the most part
And no I won't pirate adobe
Reality is that the people in charge of the GIMP project have shit for brain, it's literally a car designed by people who can't drive for shit
Ever tried Krita? Maaaaaan, it's almost as good as Photoshop. Damnit, their stylus/bamboo-pad support is out of this world and, in fact, objectively better than Photoshop's. That being said: typography is its Achilles heel. It's absolute shit at messing with fonts and related effects. You can just use Inkscape for that. Otherwise, it's damn-near perfect: https://krita.org/en/
At one point krita was fine... And then I realized it started to blow, like big time
Yeah I think it's the fact that setting it up for pixel art turns out to be a major pain in the ass, like I want a pencil that makes 1px opaque squares, and nope, that seems to be a challenge right away, I can only get a 1px large brush, semi opaque....
That and load time, I think, that's why I dropped the ball with krita, the bazillion of krita icons ending up in the task manager for whatever reason didn't help krita's case
But yeah, that aside, krita looks much closer to the real deal, especially when it comes to layers and brushes (except for the pixelart case, oddly krita doesn't seem designed for that particular stuff)
Yeah, that's right. Because Krita was never designed for pixel art. But you know what I use for pixel art? Fucking Inkscape, maaaaaaan. That shit's tight. You can make some sexy-ass pixel art using Inkscape: https://pic8.co/sh/55bMPw.png
