"Showing the full URL may detract from the parts of the URL that are more important to making a security decision on a webpage," Chromium software engineer Livvie Lin said in a design document earlier this year.

Yep, that's always a "good reason" for every shady action they make.

bunch of fucking morons.

very akin to browsing to a website that uses javascript to manipulate how much the page scrolls.

Not surprising. Google has been trying to close their eco-system for years. Probably a feature for the forthcoming "approved internet" the government will be in charge of.

This is the dumbest idea I have seen in a long time when it comes to tech.

I see it as Google's way of slowly deprecating the universal standards of the internet, the URL being one of those. I would guess the end goal is making it friendlier for their technology while making it harder for yours.

Nailed it. They want tech supremacy. Google is essentially the tech division of the U.S. government now.

Helps them hide the shady crap they do. For example, the kind of informatoin that is often present in full URL strings when they redirect you 20 times through various tracking domains.

Cool, another reason to only use that browser as a development testing tool and absolutely nothing more. As I have been.

Maybe it has something to do with dumbing people down enough that they'll be comfortable with Google Home.

People should just stop using google products. There are plenty of alternatives, yet people are stuck to gmail and chrome and the like.

Google has name recognition right now, especially in business. No one is going to bat an eye if you reply from myname@gmail.com.

Something will come along to challenge them eventually, just like hotmail and yahoo mail, and they will fade into the background.

Pale Moon's developer has been known to be a little bitch at times, and has blocked certain extensions from working.

True enough. But it's still a great alternative browser.

No. It's not. Get chad waterfox or leave your browser in the hands of an sjw furry. Those really are your two options here.
