When I was around 8 years old, a children's news channel named Logo! reported printers being deliberately designed to quit functioning properly after a predetermined number of pages.

This idea already sounded repugnant to my 8-year-young brain.

If a device is designed to fail and difficult to repair, it feels like not actually owning it.

In 2010, the iPhone 4 was released. I already heard of iPhones before then, but that was the first time I realized they have non-user-replaceable batteries.

From a Nintendo DS Lite user manual, I already knew batteries only last for a limited number of recharging cycles until they lose their ability to output power and store energy.

And what has it come to a decade later? Mobile phones with user-replaceable batteries have been fully usurped.

The few remaining ones with replaceable batteries such as the Galaxy Xcover Pro have low-tier technical specifications such as the same resolution and frame rate for video recording as the 2011 Galaxy S2: 1080p@30fps.

Ya it sucks, I just had to buy 2 new ones with android 9 and 10 and they are disgusting. You can not turn off updates, you have to ignore the endless notifications, and disabling play store and other crap also puts endless notifications. There is a setting in 10 to turn off the notification but it is false, you turn it off and it is back on instantly, that is for google play services. It says the phone wont work if it is not enabled yet the phone works fine, there is just the endless notification.

That's one of the reasons anything I buy has to be rootable. I'm not putting up with that shit. If i can't root something, I'll just go without.

I don't use them as phones anyway they are only for anonymous internet access. I live in a remote area and there is only one cell tower within range and no other internet services which I don't want anyway. The phone numbers are handy for creating accounts on honey pot sites like Parler where the feds want you to give all your personal information to they can track people. That is why they promote parler to the conservative left, or alt-right as they like to call them. I like to be able to see what is going on and post too, so I have to protect my anonymity.
