A content matching database would mean they have to have the content to begin with. In other words apple is probably in possession of a bunch of child porn which wouldn't surprise me in the least seeing as the guy that runs apple is a faggot.

All they need is a hash of the file, not the file itself.

But they probably do keep a copy of the file so they can generate new hashes if any new methods are developed.

If all they were checking for were for matching hashes you could just modify the files slightly and there wouldn't be a match. They are definitely going do more than light hash checks.

When I say hash I mean fingerprinting. There are some fingerprinting techniques to check pictures against each other to bypass slight edits.
