We have two hypotheses:

  1. The internet has been taken over by bots--and has been for years--and they are even more advanced than could be made today.

  2. Or that people are that dumb. The people are the bots.

So.. Smart bots or dumb humans? To me that's a no-brainer. The average person is dumb, and more dumber and dumber people are getting internet access every day. They are easily manipulated and employ only rudimentary thinking. I'm just not seeing the kinds of failures that are the hallmark of AI technology.

None of the above.

What happened was that social media allowed women to get on the internet and do things they are interested in, which is mostly flapping their yaps and social warfare.

Which is exactly what we see.

Before social media, the internet was mostly men and the rules were simple and everyone was happy because women were not interested. After social media, women came online and started to talk in large herds and play female social warfare as they have done for probably a billion years. What we see now online is not stupidity but basically the noise that goes on between a womans ears - social media has hooked us up and we can now hear and see everything that goes on in a womans head. Which is basically little more than infinite detail about minutia and femal social warfare.

There is a hidden sideffect to social media. Male social warfare deals with our placein the hierarchy and it usually involves violence. Female social warfare deals with keeping everyone the same, no one can have more or less than anyone else and their strategy is reputational destruction of their oponents. Social media cannot amplify physical social warfare, but boy does it ever amplify female social warfare.

What you are mistaking as stupidity is basically just the noise in between womens ears + femal social warfare + sprinkling of feminized weak and pathetic men that participate in female social warfare because they are failed males that cannot get into a dominance hierarchy.

I wonder myself if it was social media or smart phones that really destroyed the internet. Once every normal idiot had access to the internet it was ruined.

Both, it was a tag team effort. The iPhone made smartphones fashionable and easy to use for the vast majority of people (remember Windows Mobile, PalmOS and Blackberry phones?). Social media apps came along and allowed people with no real value a way to interact with each other on a massive scale. This amplified their voices artificially and (((people))) have been using the gaslight method ever since.

This was Obama's plan. Phones in hands. Remember his free obama phone? He made sure to put an indoctrination machine in the hand of every moving adult.

Interesting take. I'm aware that women do this to male spaces but have not previously considered the internet as a whole. Definitely something to think about.

basically when the iPhone came out. There's a meme for that. In the beginning it was civilized, but then lowlifes took over.

You are definitely onto something here

Or that people are that dumb. The people are the bots.

This is correct. There may be lots of bots on social media but the fact remains that people are as dumb as they ever were and there are lots of evidence that shows they are even dumber than have ever been at any other time in history.

Humanity's intellectual prowess peaked in the renaissance era, downhill ever after.

The article and it's author failed to grasp the scope of AI manipulation. Also I do agree that not "that" many accounts are bots but there are many brain dead NPCs who will parrot what the bots say. In this sense there is little distinct to be made between the two.

The majority of AI manipulation is coming from the social media companies hosting the content. Deciding which content to promote, and how to order replies and search results.

"The internet" vs "Twitter"

Twitter actually is full of bots. I'm sure other sites are as well (cough Reddit). Once you get it going, you can generate virtually unlimited amounts of spam.

There are still people left on the Internet. Promise :)
