Another set back for self-driving cars. Don't think it will make much a difference in our attitudes towards the new feature

There was another instance where a Tesla in autopilot suddenely veered into oncoming traffic. This article doesnt explain why the car crashed; why it veered out of the lane. Why was it traveling at such a high rate of speed, 75mph? Is that the speed limit on that highway? Too many weird things going on here.

Looks like the speed limit on that highway is 70. Source: http://www.speed-limits.com/california.htm

Weird. So why was the car acclerting over the speed limit into a barrier?

I assume the driver sets the cruise control speed rather than the car deciding for itself, so he probably set it to go 5 over. Speeding a little is common practice, that's probably just how he always drives.

As to why the car was aimed at a barrier, didn't correct itself, didn't brake, and wasn't corrected or stopped by the driver, that's the big question. I recall that in the Arizona crash, some setting that allowed the car to stop itself had been disabled by Uber for some reason. Maybe that was also the case here?
