Firstly, I don't believe them. I'd bet good money on this: NN or one of the sites they usually pull their click bait from, has pulled this out of their rectum. I mean, has anyone seen signs of this "trend" in people around them?

And thirdly, why would you replace your sophisticated location beacon with a far less functional one. Are these rocket surgeons blissfully unaware of triangulation, provider side tower usage data collection? Of course they are. What a dumbphone question.

And modern "dumb" phones are just smartphones with dumbphone UI skins. They run sophisticated operating systems (maybe even Android) and have all the tracking and monitoring features still.

Old nokia phones man. They never die

They ded, don't work with the new towers. The new Nokia phones are utter shit compared to what they used to be. Example, no text key shortcuts for 9 digit keypads.

I came here to say this same thing. Everytime I look at modern "dumb" phones, they are old hardware running Android.

I sell phones. People aren't coming from smartphones to flip phones, the reason for the increase of flip phone sales is because we're dumping the 3G network and they have to upgrade to a new flip phone. Mystery solved. Natural News is a shit site.

All the "dumbphones" my carrier offers still have utoob, gmaps, & g search on them. Take that how ever you like.

Says the spammiest ad filled popup shitstorm that is naturalnews.com. They should take credit for driving people away from the internet.

If you see adds and popups you are not doing it right.

I, for one, am not going to go back to a dumbphone. I do most of my reading and an even greater percentage of my writing on a computer like a civilized human. However, I need a nav system with 4G now that 3G got eliminated. And I watch videos in bed sometimes. I could do it all with a tablet, however I'm not sure what the key difference between that and a phone would be.

Smart phones are never your property. They are on loan from your Enemies and they use it to spy upon you.

[–] 2 pts

But if you use your smartphone to find out what they do, then you're using a smartphone to spy on them too.

Smells like hopium.

This is the beginning of the end.

Realized the government was spying using smartphones in 1999 and never bought one. I won't pay someone to spy on me with an overpriced phone plan on top of hundreds of dollars to buy one so I can be tracked in real time.

Fuck that shit, I call to order pizza to go so it's ready and I used to call taxi's. I never used one for dating since all the sluts in my area were all being fake hotties and trapping dumb men with babies and child support so that also was planned avoidance so I wouldn't add responsibilities and bills to my already to tiring life of work/slavery for low wages so I can pay for some womans spawn of Satan aka bastard child.

I miss my Motorola flip-phone from 1999, it was the size of a TicTac box, and could only make/receive phone calls. https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4141/4899194035_5b482658ec_b.jpg

Can't remember, but I don't think texting was a thing back then...but I dropped it a million times, and it always worked.

Bullshit.

I've been trying for years to find a quality feature phone that operates on CDMA in the US.

They're all garbage.

Will dumbphones even be an option with the death of 3G?

I need the fucking camera. So damn useful for taking photos and reviewing them.

I wish this was true.

This is kinda stupid. You can uninstall all the time wasting apps, or disable them. You can use Ting and not overpay for a phone/data plan. I have literally never been in a situation where my phone has run out of charge because I always have access to a charger, or have a backup battery. Even the potential privacy concerns aren't that relevant, because even if disable every single app and OS method of tracking, it can still be done based on the cell towers your phone connects to.

And I don't believe for a second that any trend is actually happening.

wrap yourself in a faraday bag maybe that would help. The reddits on privacy are chock full of people asking about their "threat model" and "opsec"; should they use outlook or gmail for privacy?
