reincarnation is different, you are not re-animated with all your thoughts and experiences intact.
I don't know if you're just playing devil's advocate here but I am assuming so, cause the concept I am trying to share is not really too hard to understand
You could take the code and and its data or the memory device it is saved on and move it to a different computer and power that on and the supposed sentient being would spring back to life.
It doesn't really matter if you remember your past lives or not, it still renders death as a mere transition to another life, hence, not an absolute end
Besides there are testimonies of past lives memories, for what it's worth...
It does matter.
As that AI can easily be resurrected with all memory intact.
Being powered down and able to be powered back on is more akin to sleep
Can ≠ could ≠ will
Clock aside, there's no activity when powered down, when you sleep you dream eventually. In that sense power off is closer to death than sleep
