I've noticed that the usefulness of Google searches has gone way down. You get the same narrow cagegory of results over and over and over. After you search the first three pages or so, you might as well give up, because the results start to diverge away from your topic. There's no "depth" to the results. Also, almost all the results are commercial. The little, private Web pages with the actually useful information don't come up anymore.
I notice this uselessness most when searching for answers to computer questions, by the way. At one time, every question you could ask about computers had exactly the correct useful answer in the search engines. Now you just get pablum, over and over.
Exactly well put. When google was new, it was awesome. I could find obscure references to user group discussion, books, mentions of things… even verboten topics. Now it’s a shitty little garden of astroturf inside a Walmart aisle display.since they are shaping opinions with their disinformation, we would likely be better off totally without.
Google was sold to us nerds in the beginning. Fuck that changed fast
Brave is a little bit better.
Years ago I was able to use jewgle and get results from forums, now it is essentially ads and links to other mega websites.
I used to entertain myself while driving by talking to Google, asking questions. But now for many many topics it says it doesn't understand the question. Before I'd get funny results or at least Google would try. But now nothing unless the answer is essentially curated. So I can no longer entertain myself by talking to Google as I drive.
