Right in the comment for the video, it says "4WD is not on all the time, under normal conditions, only the rear wheels drive the vehicle forward". Saved 5 minutes of listening to the blather.

...and in AWD, a computer senses each wheel and decides how much torque to apply, whereas 4WD just applies same torque to all 4 wheels. That was the important bit.

That may be true for trucks built decades ago, but not true anymore. Just about every truck released in the past 6 years in North America has some sort of anti-slip technology. GMC trucks have 3 separate systems working in tandem to prevent slippage.

If you have 5 wheels then AWD means all 5 wheels are powered. If you have 5 wheels then 4WD means only 4 of the 5 are powered. Not confusing.

What if you only have 3 wheels, Mr. smarty pants?

Then the spare tire spins...Duh...

This is clownworld and that's perfectly reasonable.

The narrator gives an overly simplified description of 4-wheel drive that does not incorporate modern technologies such as ESP, traction control, or Stabilatrak. Most modern trucks don't let you spin tires even in two-wheel drive mode without turning off mutiple traction systems.
