It takes a hundred years for an olive tree to grow to maturity and begin bearing fruit. That means that a man who plants an olive tree does so knowing that he will never sit in it's shade, and is acting for a still far distant future that he will never see for himself. To benefit people he will never meet or know.. Everyone knows this. And yet there are vast olive groves all over Greece and Italy. That means that men who wanted their grandchildren to have olives planted those trees. If you look carefully, you will see that almost every leader in the EU is childless. They are not planning for a future for their children or grandchildren, or anyone else's for that matter. They have no future, and they know it. For them, the future must be right now, while they can see it themselves and bask in the glory of what they hath wrought in their own lifetimes. Hence their haste. Which only ensures their failure. Right thinking leads to right decisions. Right decisions lead to right actions. Right actions lead to right outcomes. If you're not getting he outcomes you desire, you must go all the way back to the source and reevaluate your thinking. They are incapable of this. Their hubris prevents them. Their thinking is wrong, so their decisions, actions and outcomes are all equally wrong. But changing would require admitting that they were wrong in the first place, and have been all along. So they continue to try to apply the same wrong actions, only faster and harder, because that must surely succeed, yes? Don't mind the sparks, fire and smoke pouring out from under the hood. Just apply more power and that must surely get it done. Thusly the sin of pride brings all such things to naught.
