This is great for privacy as we don't need to use cookies, IP addresses, fingerprinting or unique identifiers.
It effectively IS a cookie, though. They encode information into the date field which is sent back to the server each time. Before long other information will be encoded with this scheme. It's clever, but it's not fundamentally different than a cookie, just a roundabout way of achieving local storage.
