There is no need to execute a "cyber attack". All that would need to be done is the ISP's turn off their services. Or, hell, just AWS needs to be borked for most of the internet to stop functioning.

I was talking about this very thing with a friend yesterday. F*ng internet blinking off and on for three days straight- fuck all, you can't do anything, lucky if you can make a phone call. Internet goes down and your job is computer based? Guess what? Go home and lose a day's pay.
Running a civilization on one energy source in the (((hands))) of a select few? Sheeeeeit.
