There has to be some way to block/disrupt them. I already have all except phones cable connected to the router, but I suspect turning off the WI-FI broadcast would not be enough.

Turning off broadcast just hides the WiFi network name. You have to turn off WiFi, and the way things are now, that may not be enough. You may have to physically remove it.
