Kind of? Lithium happens to float soooo that complicates things. It also happens to burn as long as it is exposed to oxygen.

Oh, and fully submerging it so it is extinguished tends to create a lot of toxic shit so there is that too.

Even better, if you pour water on a lithium fire, it creates hydrogen.. Which will fuel the fire, and if done quickly enough can cause an explosion.

They really are ticking time bombs. Imagine someone with a EV truck that actually tries to do truck things with it.. Like driving through a creek/river and they don't know about a small hole in the battery compartment? Could be a big issue.

[edit] Either way, that ship is floating scrap metal now. No one will bother to try to fix it. It will be towed to some 3rd world nation beach and grounded while they cut it up and melt it down. There is no coming back from that kind of damage.
