I looked it up and the Volt will not run with a dead battery even though it has an ICE.

The Volt requires a working battery in order to operate. When using gas and a discharged battery, the car will pull energy from, and put charge back into the battery as needed. If your battery pack is in fact “dead” the car won't operate.

In comparison the Chevy Bolt replacement cost is like 16k. Idk how long those are lasting. Stay away from EVs for sure.

The volt is a series hybrid, where the gas engine primarily acts as a generator to the battery and the primary drive train is the motor pulling energy from the battery.

There is a high power mode that will switch on under special conditions that couple the engine to the drive train directly, but it can only do that as a temporary boost. The generator cannot directly drive the motor either, it needs the battery to serve as a temporary buffer to control the energy flow to each subsystem.

agreed, it's got an amazing T-bridge current flow controller too, piques my interest as someone with electrical background. The volt's battery uses a different chemistry than the typical lithium ion too, both a pro (efficient) and a con (rare, making it more costly) for customers.

The volt has an 8 year warranty just for that battery pack. I know of one that made it to 150,000 km without any battery problems before it was traded in.

150KM is not much...

My diesel has 300,000 miles. I rebuilt the engine myself for 2k. I put another 4k into stereo, turbo, injectors etc. Paid to have the transmission built to hold the 650hp the diesel now makes for 4k. All in all I paid around 10k to rebuild my diesel. It can pull a 12k excavator up a grade. It can stop an excavator down a grade, it can run a corvette, it can seat 6 very comfortably with each person having two bags it can also carry. I can run through 2 ft of water without even thinking about it. It's got 4wd and a 12k warn winch so I can pull you out, I can drag that tree from the road and I can get out from being stuck. On the highway I get 24mpg and the city 16. All for less than the price of that gay battery. How much of a faggot would you have to be to buy that?

Most EVs out there have the interior space of a Civic, but with less range per "fillup", and at least twice the price. The only advantage is that you would save around about $5K over 100K miles of driving at current gas and electric

Most families want an economic car that had has enough space and can get them safely everywhere they need to go. An ICE car beats EVs hands down. To be competitive, either gas prices have to go up a lot while electric prices stays the same (unlikely), or the cost of EVs have to be the same or even lower than ICEs.

The pack is probably 99% fine. A few bad cells can ruin it. People tear them apart and replace the bad cells.
