What the fuck are they recording that it would need to not only collect but transmit that much data? Why does a washer need wifi at all? Eventually you probably wont be able to buy so much as a toaster without it -requiring- an internet connection to work. The future is stupid.

From the post: "An LG washing machine owner and self-confessed fintech geek has asked the Twitterverse why his smart home appliance ate an average of 3.66GB of data daily. Concerned about the washer’s internet addiction, Johnie forced the device to go cold turkey and block the device using his router UI. Had the LG washer been hacked, hijacked, or otherwise tampered with over the net – or was this average data consumption for a smart appliance like this?"

these appliances more typically use less than 1MB per day.

A washer has a need to upload about 0 bytes per day. Give or take a a byte.

Seriously, you can not buy any device today that doesn't connect to your router. I never enable any smart functions.

Speaking of which, I started adding baned IP addresses to my router because of Microsoft's telemetrics. The problem I have is my router only has room to ban 32 addresses. I'd prefer to be able to add tens of thousands of IP addresses. Maybe I should use Pi-Hole. This basically does the same thing. I'm going to set this up this weekend. I have a spare Pi-5 this would be perfect for.

I've been using pihole for years. Its a step in the right direction.
