Nothing "mission critical" should ever run on a MS product. This has been a problem for decades at this point.

Stop buying garbage that only runs on "Windows". You deserve the pain you inflict on yourself.

It wasn’t Microsoft’s fault this time.

Security software is supposed to protect the stability and integrity of your systems, but it ends up being the biggest liability for both. This software typically needs full root access and intrusively scans and controls everything sensitive on your machine. It can also be remotely controlled. It’s a remote activated bomb waiting to be triggered.

Since the IT security field is full of hacks looking for a big paycheck they’re not smart enough to evaluate software like this before rolling it out to every machine their company runs. On the other side, the companies selling this software often don’t know what they’re doing. I’ve seen two different security software companies who were running off the shelf system scanners (in one case a free, open source scanner) and charging big bucks for it. When questioned neither of them fully understood what their software did.

A problem like this was inevitable. There are companies just like CrowdStrike who make similar software for Linux and probably push out untested updates for it. If you give hacks like that full root access to your machines they will wreck it. It doesn’t matter what OS you are running.
