I'm 27 and can definitely hear it. Awful.

Judging by the volume, I am guessing I can go 1 or 2KHz higher before it falls off.

I just listened to it, I'm 61 and hard of hearing due to ringing in the ears and I can definitely hear that sample wikipedia put up. Actually, it sounds lower pitched to me than the high E string on my guitar which is 329.6 hertz. I bet that file is actually producing harmonics or something, just like a little earbud speaker seems to produce bass notes.
