Basically every spice known to humanity grows in the Sth East Asian region. You name it, cinnamon, cumin, coriander etc etc it likely came from Asia. They had plenty to add heat and flavour to foods before we got there. In fact, for well over 3000 years Europeans have been exporting wine and gold to the east in exchange for spices.
