Who left voat to have a more poal-like place. I mean I set up an account here 2 years ago and then stayed on voat anyway. So other than the very occasional lurk, I don't know much about poal. It seems like a legitimate question.

I can tell you precisely why I left voat. They had a subverse called starlet or starlets that was exclusively scantily dressed children in bathing suits etc. I addressed this w/ puttitout at the time. He said it constituted free speech and I said it was sexualizing children. Many of us came here for that specific reason among a litany of others. I'm literally the voater that started paddyspub and did all the css w/ the explanation of how even a layman could edit it if he wanted. I believed in the site, but my principles/standards matter more to me and I will not lower them.

Much less participation (obviously, far fewer users) More polite, less about jews and niggers (it was still here, just maybe 5% of the postings as opposed to 50%). Downvotes.... downvotes everywhere. Been here over a year and hadn't received even one. Now I have a dozen or so. Less drama, but also less posting. I think things will settle down.

The voat migration has dramatically increased activity, props to for making that transition fairly smooth. There's been some drama of course but it's sorting itself out.
Overall I'm glad with the way things are turning out, the new culture isn't quite as dogmatic as voat's.

It's been a long week, we've had some (expected) errors due to the sudden increase of traffic, but after customizing poal's resources and scaling things up everything is running smoothly. Still working on the caching that makes the PM notifications act funny. Will be fixed soon.

I've noticed my profile page does some weird ass shit (showing new messages then immediately reflecting the reality that I've marked them read, one time reflecting hundreds of unread responses to my posts which was absurd given I'd only made a couple posts and they didn't exactly set the world on fire). I imagine that is related to what you are talking about? It wasn't enough to complain about but I didn't know if it was a feature or a bug. Lol.

I only checked on poal once every 3 or 4 months before voat went down and there was nothing going on.
