Webpages loaded faster on a dial up connection 25 years ago than they load on a 30 mbps connection today.. even when most of the page is just text... fucking why?

Webpages loaded faster on a dial up connection 25 years ago than they load on a 30 mbps connection today.. even when most of the page is just text... fucking why?

and why is the fucking web browser gobbling up 8+GB of RAM all the fucking time? computers back then didn't even have that much RAM... and it was faster....
