Why would a hammer have a soul? The soul is a possession of life. Animals and plants are alive and have souls. But, they don't have souls like we do. We have intelligent souls unlike even the "smartest" animal. We have religious or even more simply, spiritual souls. Having a soul doesn't make us family beyond the spiritual *we're all brothers* type of concept.
