Same kind of situation I think. Reagan was a figurehead. His administration was filled with neocons that got us heavily involved in fighting Israel's wars in the Middle East, supporting the pre-cursor to al Queda in Afghanistan, and destabilizing Central America to create generations of immigrants. He was popular because he followed through on conservative principles of lower taxes and less regulation, but he doubled the national debt with excess military spending. No President since has presided over the accumulation of so much debt in a time of prosperity.
