Your comments are premised on the idea that the motives of the powers that rule will appear both sane and intelligent from our perspective. This premise may be wrong.
Well i would be surprised to learn that killing everyone who trusts them and leaving those who dont alive would be done for their benefit or power which is how they appear to be making decisons. If they are trying to reduce the population while getting rid of all the useless followers and low IQ retards... its not how i would like to do it... but technically that would probably qualify as making the world a better place.
Too much other bad stuff is being orchestrated to consider there is any good will, even a sick and twisted / Malthusiatic, good will.
Consider a kid owns an ant farm. His parents take him on vacation and he leaves the farm w a friend. Friend is sadistic. He stops feeding, fries some w a magnifying glas, etc. If you were an ant all you would see is that things have taken a turn for the worst.
We may be no more than ants in such a scenario. Maybe overlords are: programmers of the simulation (if this is a sim), aliens, demons, psychopathic humans, etc. Christian dogma speaks of an age of tribulation where evil has much power; one could hardly expect to logically anticipate the moves of an antichrist.
Its true. Maybe the army of the damned only grows when the corrupt die.
