But I'm a nice guy. After a short while I do the decent thing, slow way down, creating an opening around the slow truck in the right lane and us in the left so people behind you and me can easily pass.
On one occasion, after much of the backed up traffic behind had cleared around the opening I made. I moved on from the "group" but stayed close enough to see what the asshole would do. Sure enough I watched him get back in the left lane, right next to the slow truck and again block traffic. Had to slow down again and run the same tactic again.

It's called the "whitey wait" game and they absolutely love it. It is very prevalent in the south. I make sure to do it when I walk in cross walks but I do engage in eye contact.

Took a road trip recently. Omaha area and KC area drove like fucking dickheads. Rural Nebraska all drove decently and didn't sit in the fast lane.

I laugh at those signs every time I cross into Texas. The drivers aren't on the same level as FL, New England, or the left coast, but they're still pretty shit.
If I see someone going faster than me coming up from behind on a mountain road I will pull out as soon as safely possible. But if they start getting aggressive and tailgating they're going to wait a very long time behind me, or be forced to pass over double yellows.
If I'm in the city on the interstate and someone starts riding my ass when there's lanes on the left to pass they're gonna get a brake check or the "I don't know why my car only goes 35 on the interstate." Remember it's not a brake check if the seat belts don't lock.

Furthermore, no that is not how the law works, specifically, the situation you are talking about can only happen when a car is traveling SIGNIFICANTLY lower then the speed limit

I recently drove through OKC and the general attitude is "Fuck you I'm a truck." Trying to merge onto the highway is fucking mental because people intentionally fill the right lane and don't adjust for merging.
They don't fucking have to; they have right of way! It's your responsibility to yield.
Even if you do, they purposely block off as intentional. I know how to merge but when people speed up or slow to lock that lane you get people stuck in the breakdown lane. I experienced and saw it quite the bit over a weekend. This is a general common courtesy thing. Getting off on doing this is a sign of lack of character.

OP didn't say anything about driving left. Most of the morons driving 30+ over the limit are too stupid to even know there's a system in the first place. They pass on the right, the left, the shoulder, exit only lanes, and everywhere else. They almost universally have shit driving skills and routinely get themselves trapped behind slower traffic because their diminished mental capacity makes it impossible for them to plan more than 5 seconds ahead. They think being a chimpanzee that figured out pressing harder on a pedal makes more vroom means they're better drivers. They take out their incompetent rage on the people unfortunate to be nearby when inevitability and their own stupidity catch up with them.

I feel that 100%, but today I was ran off the road by a kid in a truck who was behind me on a single lane road. I was part of 30+ closely packed cars in a line going 60ish in a 55. On a curve he crossed the double yellow and swerved his truck into me, causing me to drive off into the grass at highway speeds. My only crime I could think of was having a good time with my arm hanging out the window. People are homicidal now.
