The founders of the US (who are fallible btw, but even they) realized that in unrestricted democracy special interest groups would vote themselves the treasury. They setup a limited government, and only white land owners could vote. Together, these two things virtually ensure that the voters are spending their own money, and, thus, would be more inclined to vote only for the really necessary stuff like national defense from pirates and Englishmen and shit. And there was no income tax.
So yeah, the country was right. It became wrong. Should go back to being right. easy peasy
