Nah... it went down slow enough and crushed early enough that it was more like...
The microsecond implosion is if it was made of sturdier stuff. It began to fail at every level early.
The sound heard... I've overheard from a carrier XO is that the creaking was loud enough to hear and stretched over time.
They had time to hear the thing starting to fail on them.
Except carbon fiber doesn't bend like metal, it shatters once it reaches its failure point.
The carbon fiber was sheathed around titanium.
Oddly enough, carbon fiber layered with titanium In a saltwater environment acts as an anode/cathode, deteriorating both as it reacts in sea water.
Very strange combination to use.
A titanium gold alloy mixed with a few exotics has the highest known tensile strength of any metal. While a bit pricier, it would be the logical option for such an endeavor. It's almost like he chose the worst idea possible on purpose.
The videos I've seen of the construction of the tube section show it to just be carbon fibre, about 5" thick, wound radially only (not that it would matter much as the pressure is the wrong way for the tensile strength of carbon fiber to do anything). Effectively, the cylinder portion was made from epoxy resin. The titanium end caps were just glued on. The process by which they were glued was amateur to say the least. No degassing of the resin, no climate control, done in an open warehouse (no contamination control).
I've only read it had titanium endcaps. Did the carbon fiber have titanium sandwiched between the layers?
It's almost like he chose the worst idea possible on purpose.
He was jewish, it saved $.30
Bravo to him taking himself out, though yet another jew was killed in the holocaust. Who am I kidding, the pakis became jews too once they died.
