Oddly enough, carbon fiber layered with titanium In a saltwater environment acts as an anode/cathode, deteriorating both as it reacts in sea water.

Very strange combination to use.

A titanium gold alloy mixed with a few exotics has the highest known tensile strength of any metal. While a bit pricier, it would be the logical option for such an endeavor. It's almost like he chose the worst idea possible on purpose.
