My kid is getting annoying with asking for a cell phone. She's 12. All the other kids do, in fact, have a cell phone. If we went any particular route, it would be a flip phone or something at best, but I am familiar with modding, so that is an option (say, to get a solid phone and then mod to lock-down/remove bloat).

Curious what others out there have done.

Edit: TMobile, would rather not get any "new" or phones on a loan/prepurchase. IMHO, she's not getting one at least until she's 13...

1 of my sons does...but he's 21 and he's had the number since he was 17 or 18.

She doesn't need a phone. She wants one. If you are able to get her a dumb/feature phone, go that route. Explain to her it is only for calling family and emergencies. The phone I had gotten my son was able to be password locked to calling numbers in the contact list.
