My kid is getting annoying with asking for a cell phone. She's 12. All the other kids do, in fact, have a cell phone. If we went any particular route, it would be a flip phone or something at best, but I am familiar with modding, so that is an option (say, to get a solid phone and then mod to lock-down/remove bloat).

Curious what others out there have done.

Edit: TMobile, would rather not get any "new" or phones on a loan/prepurchase. IMHO, she's not getting one at least until she's 13...

Both of my kids did when they were that age. 1 had a flip, one had an early iPhone, both gifts from the aunt. Later on, we bought them Moto's (I think when both make it to high school, or there abouts). Had to have them since wife and I both worked and had to leave them alone at home until we got home
