Historically in western media it's been portrayed as a double edged sword, however the stories leaned towards true love and doing what you need to regardless of repercussions. I'm not opposed to the notion of true love but I'd argue people that bear some responsibility for others should not throw those away that depend on em and do what they want. Obv circumstances vary.
