Accuracy of intent.

Every word has meaning - use the proper word for what is intended to be conveyed and ensure it is spelled properly.

Whether it is a story, a poem, or merely a comment on a forum post, the elements that disrupt the written words that I am reading the most are misspellings and improper word usage; e.g. "your" instead of "you're". (example elsewhere on this post)

To me, misspellings and/or improper word usage are topmost in being the most disruptive to written words as they will degrade the importance of a meaningful comment and disrupt a reader from an engaging story.

As misspellings and improper word usage distract from what is being read and disrupt immersion, an 8 story will seem to be lowered to a 5 or 6 if it contains these elements. Such disruptions will prevent immersion into the story or envisioning what is being read, lessening enjoyment of it.

The same is true for a garbage story or a weak comment. A 2 story can seem to be more akin to a 3 or 4 if all of the text is spelled properly and with proper word usage, which will keep the reader engaged in what is being read even if it is garbage.

I liken proper spelling and word usage to not only be a sign of the writer's confidence and pride in what they have written, but to also be a display of the level of respect the writer has for the reader of their words.
