The infestation was worse than I thought, there were 10s of thousands of these little niggers in every nook and cranny, in some areas looking like a teeming red paste.

Had to amend my plan from here https://poal.co/s/AskPoal/774347 by some extra steps:

  • After pressure washing, be coverered in mites and mite excrement
  • Burn all your clothes
  • Take a long bath in equal parts holy water and sulfuric acid

The "good" bug killer is not being sold anymore, so I had to use the "natural" stuff. Let's see how it works out.

I still feel itchy, even after a shower and a change of clothes.

Gnarly, dude. We had bird mites break into our house a few months ago. Nest on the front porch, a package got covered, wife got covered, one year old got covered... I got a hysterical phone call at work.

Neem oil did the trick, took a few applications. But it definitely killed the jerks. I don't know if blood mites are more resilient than bird mites, though...

God speed, my friend.

Thanks for this. Ordered 1 Liter concentrate, which should give 100 Liters of applicable product. It has soapnut tree extract in it, so it emulgates better with water.

Includes a measuring cup and a sprayer for 25 Euros.

If it works, that's a godsend.

No problem. It's a bit harsh on the windpipes. I probably should have put on some respiratory protection before running up the ladder and going scorched earth, but I didn't. But it sounds like you're scorched earth is going to be heavier than mine... Would recommend.

Neem oil arrived and I mixed up a batch. You weren't kidding, that stuff reeks! I read you can put it on chickens, coop and "the environment", whatever that means.

I'll have to trick my wife into applying it somehow.

Do you use dolomite lime or diatomaceous earth in your coop? Both work wonders for helping to keep mites & fleas away. Be cautious using diatomaceus earth it can cause respiratory problems. Especially since people use it in their chickens dust bath area. I suggest dolomite lime instead for the dust baths (sand, regular yard dirt, potash, and lime)

Hemp bedding is also a natural insect repellent (doesn't work on earwigs).

A combination of neem oil and peppermint oil works good for killing and repelling fleas/mites/mosquitos.

You can make a Rickstick for your coop to help monitor infestations. !

Good luck

This stuff, I think it's the lime, they don't explicitely say on the site, color is gray like cement or gravel: https://cumbasilmite.de/products/cumbasil-mite-25-kg ! !

They hadn't touched it, then I just mixed a little straw in and after a couple minutes they practically dove in and now won't leave.

I'll try and rig a Rickstick, thanks!

I'll bet that it's potash, diatomaceous earth, and maybe dolomite lime. Should do the trick.

Just saw that they have an English language version of their site, in case you're interested. https://cumbasilmite.de/en/

Translation is okay(ish).
