I worked with some geo weather people for a time. (Keeping it minimal to not dox).

One day I had a very interesting conversation with someone that has published papers world-wide and is considered a top 10 expert. He told me that "Its just weather".

He said that his study did not produce the results he thought it would or was hoping for but would publish it anyway. He was looking at core samples that go back thousands of years.

He was an interesting and smart guy. Always fun to talk with.
