Okay, where can I get a wind and solar system that will allow me to heat my house 24/7 during a northern winter? Remember, I need it to work during extremely short overcast days with little to no wind. Seriously, I would absolutely love to to get free of the slave/grid for natural gas and electricity. How much will it cost?
Electricity transmission from other locations is obviously what the grid is good for, and those other locations can make use of renewable resources not available locally. Being self-sufficient and reducing greenhouse emissions are two different issues that often overlap.
So I just need a billion dollar HV DC transmission line from the Nevada desert, and then have to pay whatever the asking price is? Sounds wonderful sign me up!
You have nothing.
You said you're on the grid, so you've already paid. A billion dollars is chump change compared to the amount the government spends warmongering.
