Is it possible the hammer was cocked and it fired by him releasing it? Doubtful it was modified for fanning but Idk..

On revolvers, with the hammer cocked, the trigger pull is much lighter than when uncocked. On some pistols, you only have to barely pull the trigger with your finger and it will fire. If Alec is unfamiliar with revolvers and he did pull the hammer back I can see why he might ignorantly believe “I didn’t pull the trigger.”

If the hammer was cocked, you need to pull the trigger to get it to drop.

You can modify it for something called fanning where the trigger pull isn't needed.

...and that is only done on Cowboy Action six shooter race guns. If that was on set they have even bigger problems.

I guess the revolver cocked itself and pointed itself as the people who were shot too, right? What an evil gun. That gun must be punished.
