On revolvers, with the hammer cocked, the trigger pull is much lighter than when uncocked. On some pistols, you only have to barely pull the trigger with your finger and it will fire. If Alec is unfamiliar with revolvers and he did pull the hammer back I can see why he might ignorantly believe “I didn’t pull the trigger.”
